It’s an Olympic Year ~~ this summer will showcase some of the most amazing athletes from around the world. I’m always awestruck by the breath-taking feats and unbelievable accomplishments of every single one of them. The simple fact that they all qualified to be chosen to compete leaves me standing in sheer respect for their hard work and dedication to their craft. These are the elite of their trade ~~ and they’ve put many, many years into perfecting their skills.
Matthew 25:29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
Jesus tells us ‘use what you’ve been given’ specifically for The Kingdom of God ~~ and you will receive even more. I’ve heard many people quote this Scripture passage in reference to the material wealth we’ve been given. While although it would bless others for you to share your wealth, I tend to think that Jesus wants us to dig deeper and reach beyond our pockets and go right for the closets that contain our talents and skills and knowledge.
Matthew 13:12 To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.
Mark 4:24-25 Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”
In the Scriptures above, Our Lord appeals to our spiritual ears and our minds. And again, notice the direct call to heed His teachings. If we listen (that goes beyond mere hearing ~~ I call that ‘auditory digestion’) then we will understand and our understanding will increase.
Luke 8:18 “So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”
I find it interesting how The Lord says ‘pay attention to HOW you hear.’ So many times we are not giving Him our full attention~~ thinking we are being more ‘efficient,’ we multi-task even our daily devotional time, our prayer time, our worship time ~~ our minds are wondering off onto our to-do lists then bouncing back in time to say, ‘In Jesus’ Name, Amen!’
Whenever I overload myself with too many tasks at a single time, something undoubtedly suffers; one of those important tasks is not well attended and the results are sloppy at best! So when Jesus specifically says, ‘pay attention to how you hear,’ I believe He’s holding my face with those loving Hands of His and speaking right into my spirit.
Using what we receive from God ~~ our talents and skills ~~ in the honorable ways He has taught us ~~ will not only bless the recipients, but will multiply our talents and skills. Lo and behold, we will again receive more with which to bless others ~~ all because of our loving obedience to offer it all up to the Giver of Gifts.
Our Creator God fashioned us with a Purpose ~~ to fulfill His Purpose. He knows how we were formed in the womb, and knows what we will do with what we have. He equips us with the strength to go the entire distance and no less.
Working with people who seek to strengthen their bodies and become more healthy, I have a ‘fitness mantra’ (if I may say that): “We need only to work the muscles we want to keep!” So if you’re having to choose, be sure to choose only those ~~ the rest of your muscles you can forget about. Now of course, this usually elicits several smiles within a room filled with about 65 persons. Certainly everyone responds with enthusiasm to work their entire body ~~ because they know all too well that if they refuse to use they will lose.
And such is the case with our spiritual selves ~~ God intentionally calls our attention to our listening skills and directly tells us to move our talents (use them) ~~ otherwise what little we have will indeed be taken away. Consider it good stewardship of what He has bestowed upon you. To hide our talents ~~ yes, to neglect using them for His Glory ~~ is sin.
- “What gifts and talents have you been given? How are you using them? How could you better use them for the Glory of God? What steps do you need to take today to make this happen, Girlfriend?”
I encourage you to take a moment and conduct a personal inventory. Make two lists: (1)Itemize every gift and talent you can think of that you possess; (2)Beside each gift and talent, briefly describe how you are using it.
Pay close attention to what you see unfolding before your eyes. Pray over List #1 and ask The Holy Spirit to fill you with knowledge on how to better utilize each gift, and then create List #3.
Set your mind to do the very best with what you have, Girlfriend. To think that you don’t have any talents or gifts is to insult the God of all Creation ~~ He does not create mediocrity.
It’s is my prayer that you will be filled to overflowing with the love of Our Savior so that you will enthusiastically use all of your Talents and Gifts for His Glory.
I love you to Heaven and Back, Sweet Sister ~~
