Gathering, coming together, uniting … it all leads to oneness. We long for it because we were created for it … relationships.
Living in a fallen world, however, doesn’t always avail us to the relationships that we hope to have in our lifetime. When you think you’re doing all the right things to show others that you are holding the door wide open to your heart, only to have them walk right past you as if you didn’t exist.
Your spirit beckons with invitation to join you in life, to walk alongside you and share, but the offer is not even opened much less responded to. Is there something about me that you dislike? Have I offended you? Did I say something to cause you to walk away?
You call, text, email, send a card … you wait. You check all the usual social media hangouts to make sure they’re still alive. Maybe you drive by their home to verify their car is still parked there as evidence of their residence. You back up thinking that maybe you’re pushing too much too hard too often. You wait some more. The silent canyon between you continues to widen.
Our Heavenly Father created us for relationship with Him. The intimacy that was intended to be ours with Him began in Eden, the Garden of perfection. But that perfect intimacy was broken when Adam and Eve decided to redefine who they were — they challenged GOD’s Wisdom; they gave way to deception. Rather than trust what GOD had said to protect them, they fell prey to a lie.
The perfect relationship was destroyed.
The ache in your heart from broken relationships or relationships that may have never even developed — is real and is worthy of attention.. Much like the ache that GOD the Father must have felt when Adam and Eve broke their communion with Him, things are not the same moving forward. There’s a void. A silence. An emptiness. And no matter what you do to try to fill it or replace it, you cannot achieve a level of satisfaction or ‘fix’ the fracture.
- Is there a fractured relationship that you are presently dealing with?
- Take the time to write it out on paper — putting words to it will help you see clearly.
- As you pray about this, ask GOD to speak over you, the situation and your place in it. Be sure to record what He Whispers to you,
The awkwardness can sometimes cause a paralysis. How do I go forward from this place of limbo? If I see them, what do I say or do — how should I act in their presence?
When Adam and Eve realized their sin had left them exposed, they tried desperately to conceal themselves. They hid behind what they could find in a failing attempt to pretend all was well.
But GOD saw through their imperfect conspiracy to cover up. Transparency became something to fear. Knowing that GOD can see what happens to us even when we don’t is a blessing that we have mistakenly turned into a threat and an invasion of privacy.
But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. Psalms 86:15 NLT
I have found that our craving and longing for relationships with people comes from the Heart of the Father. The Book of Genesis speaks to how GOD took great care to create man in His own image. The desire for companionship and fellowship originates from His Design for us to be with Him. So when connections are, at best, wonky and askew, it’s best to check our connectivity Vertically before checking horizontally.
- Describe your relationship with GOD. As you commit the words to paper, are you seeing anything missing or anything you would like to change?
Unlike humans, GOD is patient to wait for our responses to His Calls far beyond what we would consider reasonable. We tend to set a timer and when the bell sounds that all the allowable minutes have been exhausted, we close the door of opportunity.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 ESV
I know what it feels like to have those human fractured relationships. The anxiety and unrest steals your joy. But there comes a time when you have to acknowledge that you are not GOD and turn it over to Him. Walking on egg shells is not how we maintain a firm steady stride. You have no control over the reactions or lack of response from another human being.
That deep passion inside of you yearns for wholeness that includes certain people to be experiencing life with you, GOD may have other purpose for your fervor and devotion. Let Him have those precious Gifts — He placed them there inside you to be cultivated — they will be put to good use through His Hands.
It’s difficult to come to the realization that there are those who simply refuse to be in your sphere — so set them free, Sweet Friend. And be freed.
The relationship you want to be most cognizant of is the one you just described on paper. Your relationship with GOD your Creator. He is the One to Whom you must give an account. He is the One Who has loved you before you set foot on this planet. This is the most important relationship you will ever have.
Maybe you’re ‘good’ with all your human relationships, but your relationship with GOD the Father is the one that’s fractured — in fact, it may even be shattered.
For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And the began to celebrate. Luke 15:24 ESV
As a shepherd cares for his sheep on the day that he is among his scattered flock so I will care for My sheep; and I will rescue them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day. Ezekiel 34:12 AMP
“What do you think? If someone has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, won’t he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go search for the stray? Matthew 18:12 CSB
Dear One, hear me. The GOD Who created you and calls you fearfully and wonderfully made, also believes you are worth dying for. And that’s exactly what He did. He will do whatever He sees fit to get to you. And that says a lot. He owns it all and is in control of it all. There is nothing that can stand in His way to get to you.
He waits with open Arms to embrace you. It does not matter what has happened in the in between time. He just wants you.
My prayer is that you will examine this precious relationship. This is the only one that will not fail. This one can be mended in a heartbeat. This one has endless possibilities for overflowing.
The Lord Himself is the Healing for the fracture.
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
