“Imposter syndrome is securing your identity to something insecure.” ~ Nona Jones
3 And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. 4 Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt. 1 Samuel 18:3-4 NIV
Come and listen to Nona Jones as she clearly explains the Biblical truth about comparison and its deadly affect on the human spirit. I truly appreciate that Nona speaks from the Scriptures to declare that comparing ourselves to other people steals the life out of who we really are in Christ. Comparison is the root of identity theft.
Christians are no different from unbelievers when it comes to “wanna be” or “wanna have.” What should set us apart is the confession that we even went there. Yes, many of us (I say this red-faced) look at what someone else has and suddenly those triggers flip the switches and we remember what we don’t have. We hear applause for someone’s accomplishments and wonder when is that going to happen for me? What appears to be a passing over for a promotion strikes the old feelings of being less than. Real living is not air-brushed or filtered. Real living happens when you live in the confidence of who Jesus says you are. Message to self: “Jesus says I’m worth dying for.”
Whether it’s relationships that aren’t happening or haven’t yet happened or are going sideways – we will find some detail where we are wishful that ours looked like hers. That house with all the newest amenities, pool in the yard, landscaping that seems to remain lush year round – overshadows the modest home in which GOD placed us. The list is endless – we all have one.
And yet Nona in her teaching here calls us to remember who GOD is and who we are in Him. Period. That alone should bring us back to our senses. Perhaps this is that moment where we reconcile with who we truly are in Christ and stop the madness and the ongoing insecurity that is wrought by spiritual identity theft.
No spoilers here, Sister, because what Nona has to say over you is best listened to and digested between that eighteen inches of head and heart. Nona’s message is powerful and impactful – hit that replay button as many times as you like. Then pray about that other woman you’ve been “idolizing” or “wanting to be like” and ask GOD to bless her beyond her wildest imagination and watch what He does to change your heart. I would expect that great things from GOD are just around the corner.
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~
