Your job is to speak out the things that make for solid doctrine. Guide older men into lives of temperance, dignity, and wisdom, into healthy faith, love, and endurance. Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as nether gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior. Also, guide the young men to live disciplined lives. Titus 2:1-6 The Message
She’s coming up behind me at an incredible speed ~~ how did this happen so quickly? I can still remember sitting on the lounger in the ultrasound room with my pregnant daughter and my son-in-law, tears streaming down my face, going through tissue after tissue, as I saw this precious grandchild on the wall-mounted large flat screen monitor. And I have every one of those images preserved onto my computer to prove it.
I’ve been praying for this Baby Girl since my daughter broke the news to me outside of the hair salon ~~ we had scheduled back-to-back appointments that day. When they pulled up beside me, my son-in-law was first to exit the car and embrace me. My daughter lagged behind, but when I finally saw her she clearly did not look well. In fact, she handed me a plastic shopping bag and without saying a word dashed for a nearby bush to “relieve herself of morning sickness.” When I opened the bag, I found “a piece of red fabric.
Opening up “the fabric” I discovered it was an infant onesie with the imprint: USMC on the front. How appropriate for the baby of a Marine Sergeant.
Numb. Speechless (which for me is highly unusual). Stuck.
After the long endearing hugs and tears of joy, I left the parking lot driving away with the biggest grin and a full heart.
God had given me the privilege to be a grandmother.
And so I must continue this Project which He laid upon my heart long before she was conceived. Now I understand why I have this compelling desire to pass it on.
This Legacy of Christ.
His Life. His Words. His Examples. His Sacrifice. All that He has bestowed upon me and poured out onto me. The gifts and life lessons with which He has equipped me for the long haul. The divine miracles that I have lived through and the victory that has been mine by virtue of His Intervention.
Grace. Mercy. Forgiveness. All have been mine to freely behold because of His Love.
My Passion is fueled by my Purpose. My Purpose is to glorify the One True God. My very being was created to bring others to Christ and help them grow, effectively using the gifts and talents God gave me.
I invite you to join me in loving on the generations coming up behind us. They’re depending on us to lead them and guide them.
