“You are the object of GOD’s affection.” – Lisa Harper
Those words — for some of us, it’s a no-brainer and we’re locked in, hands up in agreement without a blink.
And then there are the rest of us that have a wrestling match with those same words because of a backstory of pain and heartache. Perhaps there’s a wound (or two or three or five-thousand of them) that just hasn’t healed and we cannot wrap our finite minds around the fact (yes, fact) that GOD would be so in love with us that we’re always on His mind. Yet, it is every bit true. He will go after you and chase you down to get you to experience just how much He loves you.
12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? 13 And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. Matthew 18:11-13 ESV
GOD loves us so much that He will chase after us – to have a love relationship with Him – to be with Him. That is astounding!
We are not loved by what we have or have not done. GOD doesn’t exclude us from His love because we haven’t performed well enough. We simply have to accept His love through Jesus.
It’s no secret that the lens through which we ‘see’ GOD is largely set by the environment and circumstances that helped shape us during our earliest years. If all we’ve experienced is judgement, criticism, disapproval, rejection, abandonment, neglect, comparison, mental, physical or emotional abuse (just to name a few) – then we will have a strong tendency to ‘see’ GOD as that cruel and harsh judge with the long robe and gavel ready to punish us. We will not see love.
And yet, that is exactly Who He is.
The majority of us needed someone to show us the way. And when we experienced The Way, we couldn’t keep it to ourselves because we know the pain we were in beforehand.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 ESV
