Lift Your Spirit – “Mary Did You Know?”

But Mary treasured all these things, giving careful thought to them and pondering them in her heart. Luke 2:19 Amplified

As a mom of three adult children, I reflect back on those years long past (but never forgotten) when I wondered what it would be like, feel like and look like when my children became adults. And you know, it seemed to come so fast. Still remembering each pregnancy and their infancy, and now they’re starting families of their own.

When I listen to this particular song and focus on each word, it takes me back to those earlier days of motherhood. And then I can’t help but wonder what kinds of thoughts mother Mary had when she was there, too, in her experiences of birthing the King of kings.

I have a maternal feeling that Mary didn’t know ~ Who it was that she was carrying and nurturing ~ not at first. The thought of it all just seems so way over the top and overwhelming; at least from my tiny corner of the world. And yet, Mary likely had those same questions that I had running through her own young mind and heart. She herself being barely a teenager.

Her soul must have erupted with awe as she witnessed the miracles that unfolded before her very eyes. How could her heart keep from exploding within her chest as she watched her Son touch so many lives and saw each person be restored?

With each occurrence, do you think that Mary may have “connected the dots” by recalling the Promises of GOD prophesied over her by the Angel Gabriel? Perhaps, she may have wondered if the prophesies of Isaiah were actually happening in real time in her own life?

As moms, we tend to observe and tuck away ~ we save or treasure those moments that just seem to speak to our spirit ~ as if they are an affirmation of the identity of the child we once carried in our womb. And as the child develops we connect those dots and watch GOD fulfill His promises through the personality of the child.

I had not thought about it until this song … Mary kissed the face of GOD. That leaves me jaw-dropped.

Join me in letting our minds wander in the wonder of it all.

The Son she delivered would soon Deliver her. He delivered us all.

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~
