“Legacy”

24 The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:22-26

By now you know that I’m all about the precious ones coming up behind us. Like babies that follow and mimic what they see and hear, they are carefully soaking in the sights, sounds, words, behaviors of those leading the way.

You may not be aware of that sweet young gal that is secretly following in your footsteps. But she is intentionally placing her foot into every print you leave behind. She is eager to be as you have demonstrated for her out in the open. Whether you are fully aware of her mindfulness, she is every bit attentive to you.

It goes without saying how impactful your life is upon hers. She sees when you are laughing and joyful, she takes notice of what saddens you and brings tears to your eyes. Her responses to what disappoints you and causes you grief give evidence that she is attuned to you. She is walking in your shadow ~ and you may not even know her.

You may say, “But I didn’t ask for this responsibility.” And you’re absolutely right. Unless she is a known entity or a family member, you may be taken by surprise. However, she sees you and looks up to you. She has secretly adopted you as her mentor.

Mentorship isn’t always formally introduced. Sometimes we will turn around and find her standing close behind, discovering that she had been there for quite some time. There’s something that drew her towards you. At a critical moment, she latched onto you for support, guidance and wisdom. The void that she had been living with seemed to have found a “friend” in you.

Sweet Friend, there are so many watching you … watching me. As women, I believe there’s a built-in mechanism that seeks to “find our tribe.” We can be lonely in this crowded space we call life. That’s where we are vulnerable and susceptible to deception and lies that the enemy of our soul wants to feed us to distract us from the truth about our value.

Jesus says we are worth dying for. That, dear Friend, is the Truth you want to embrace and pass along to that one coming up behind you. And there is nothing ~ nothing ~ that can change His mind about you, nor can you do anything to affect His deep and passionate love for you. He has never loved you more than He does right now.

Let me encourage you to be mindful of the legacy you are living in the here and now. I pray that it speaks of the immeasurable love of GOD and His never-ending mercy and faithfulness towards you. Because it’s all true and all real. And that’s the message you want to live on forever. This is the blessing you want to speak over the ones coming up behind you.

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~
