11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11 ESV
It’s no secret that the circumstances of life can feel so heavy that we prefer to just pull the covers over our head and let the world pass us by. I’ll be the first to break the silence here and raise my hand to having felt that way for years. As if hiding beneath my comforter (almost ironic moment) I would find some sort of solace from the pain and agony of another day of misery.
Perhaps you can relate. It’s even possible you’re there right now, Friend. Peering out over that blanket to decide if it’s worth getting out of bed. I get it. It’s hard. But you weren’t meant to stay there. You can choose to reach out into the light for the Light.
I embrace this worship song because it is an invigorating reminder that the pit I was in was never intended to be my home. That dark and lonely place is tight and cramped ~ no room to grow and stretch. It’s isolated and lifeless. Jesus came to change all of that. He did it for me and I know He can and does it for others.
Do you need Jesus to lift you out of a pit? Call out His Name, Friend ~ He’ll do it.
Just as depression, disappointment, devastation, broken relationships, grief, loss, trauma … the list can go on forever … these pits are not our final resting place. Neither is the grave strong enough to hold our body down. Our Redeemer King redeems the worst of experiences and transforms it all into the most unimaginable miracle.
As we draw near to the celebration of Easter, let us remember that when Jesus conquered the grave, He also resurrected our mental health. We have the opportunity to live out the rest of our earthly lives fully resuscitated by the Holy Spirit. (In the Greek, pneuma is the word for the Holy Spirit. Pneuma is also the root word from which we get the word for lung.)
Come and join me for a praise break … it’ll lift your spirit for the rest of your day. You’ll be glad you got out of bed. The only comforter worth being permanently wrapped in is the Comforter ~ the Holy Spirit Himself.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26 KJV
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~
