“The Sabbath Rest” ~ Skip Heitzig

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Exodus 20:8-11 ESV

27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.” Mark 2:27 ESV

16
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
Colossians 2:16-17 ESV

In recent months, I had been trying (my attempts continue) to keep a designated day of rest ~ sabbath, if you will ~ to just relish in the goodness of GOD by spending intentional and prayerful time with Him. I am still working this out.

In my feeble attempts to keep a single day ‘holy (wholly) devoted’, I was actually trying to find a point in my week to simply rest from doing the usual grind; to cease from work. Sometimes it happened, and many times it didn’t.

I wrestled with this because my understanding was to give myself the pause (if you will) to be still and rest in GOD. I knew innately that it would benefit me physically, spiritually and emotionally. Far too many times, I caved in to answering the call to requests that beckoned my performance driven nature. And with that came the detriment of lack of rest ~ physically, spiritually and emotionally. Taking a step back to realize that my intentions were good, but my lack of understanding was holding me captive from fully experiencing the rest ~ true rest ~ that I was craving. So, I went on a search for greater understanding of what GOD meant for me to enjoy.

In his sermon on Sabbath rest, Skip Heitzig helps his listener to fully grasp what the Scriptures are telling us. Sabbath was a gift from GOD for us to enjoy and bask in. He modeled it by Himself resting ~ ceasing from work ~ on that seventh day. I appreciate what Skip does here, because he also helps us to understand how the apostle Paul taught the body of believers to honor this day (that we choose).

Come join me as we listen to this very informative sermon. My prayer is that you will find rest in what GOD has gifted you: rest in Jesus. Put your activity on hold for a moment to receive a blessing from this message ~ you’ll be glad you did. And perhaps you, too, will revisit the way you practice your sabbath day(s) of rest.

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~

  1. I love the topic and it’s so important to observe the Sabbath for many reasons. Some of my orthodox Jewish friends even the Jews for Jesus insists the Sabbath stay on the Saturday that the Christians stole that and made it Sunday, lol. It does not matter what day it is Just as long as we take the time to honor God a little more with intention, and pray and get into His word. I’m going to take the time this morning and listen to it although I would and need to do other things It’s important I take the time. This is much needed for many people so I will forward. We don’t really observe the Sabbath on Sunday We go to church worship a little listen to a sermon and then go to lunch and have a good old time. Lately though I have been wanting to come home and rest. Sent from my T-Mobile 5G Device
