“How To Thank GOD ‘Even Though'” ~ Steven Furtick

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me

in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever.

In the United States, today is celebrated as Thanksgiving. A day among the other 364 days whereby we gather with gratitude in our hearts, while a feast is on our lips.

Perhaps it would serve us well to articulate that gratitude with our lips and our lifestyles to prove our sincerity and commitment to what we profess.

In this very brief excerpt from one of his archived sermons, Pastor Steven Furtick brings us to a place of remembrance when things are not going as we had hoped for – when our prayers have not been answered as we had expected them to be – when our outcomes are completely opposite of what we thought GOD would do for us in our circumstances.

It’s in those “even though” moments that we demonstrate our maturity in Christ. When we are able to say, “GOD, You know my heart really wanted ______, but I trust You for the good that will come out of what You have chosen to be better.”

And maybe, just maybe, if we yield our “even though” mindset, we will be transformed by faith into believing and trusting GOD’s “even better” for our situations.
