2 You know when I sit down and when I get up.
You know my thoughts before I think them. Psalm 139:2 NCV
What to do with all those thoughts that have been swirling around in your head all day? Unpack them and take a load off your mind!
One study said that our brains process an average of over 60,000 thoughts per day. How is that even possible? If you think about being awake for approximately sixteen hours per day, which is equivalent to 960 minutes, that breaks down to about 62.5 thoughts per minute. My simple calculations say that’s more than a thought per second. It’s no wonder we often feel like our minds are racing. We are on constant overload.
Let me share something with you that I have found to be beneficial in dealing with all those thoughts competing for attention and mind space. Journaling. Yes, the old fashion method of unloading the heart, mind, and soul of all the day’s baggage.
I’m sure you can easily YouTube or Google the myriad of ways to accomplish this. My suggestion is to find one that you can maintain with ease. There’s no need to complicate your life any further. There is no comparing this way over that. It’s what is suitable to your lifestyle and preference. Whatever method you choose, it must work for your personality and habits. If it’s too demanding or complex, you won’t do it ~ trust me, I’ve been there.
Picking up the ol’ pen and casting your words to paper is ideal, especially if you want to have a treasure trove of gems that you can look back upon to see where GOD has been faithful throughout your life. And it will all be there in your own penmanship.
Maybe you are more comfortable hitting the keyboard because you can type faster than you can write, and you like the ease of spell-check and the convenience of being able to slide in graphics or quotes. Go for it.
However you wish to process all those thoughts, just do it. The Lord was there when they entered your mind, and knew how you were going to respond (or react) to each one before you did.
Perhaps you can even close each entry with a prayer, lifting up some of those heavy weighted thoughts to His Care. These are priceless. When you are able to reflect back and read those prayers, you will see how GOD met you there in those moments, and you will be a living testimony of His existence.
As the years roll by, if you are still journaling, you will see evidence (hopefully) of your maturity and growth in Christ and see how your relationship with Him flourished. A collection of these entries will leave behind a beautiful legacy of your Savior.
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~
