9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy,12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. Colossians 1:9-12 NLT
When we’re thirsty, we get something to drink. If our stomachs are rumbling, we grab a bite to eat. If we’re tired of standing, we take a seat. At the end of the night when our eyes are drooping, we go to bed.
We don’t seem to hesitate much when our physical bodies are begging for attention. The squeaking part of us generally gets what it wants.
So, why is it that we will go days (or weeks or months) without feasting on the Word of GOD? Or choose to neglect going to our local church to be fed by our pastors and teachers?
And when we have every liberty to ask GOD for His wisdom, guidance, or discernment ~ we simply do not ask?
That’s puzzling to me. We will more likely ask a stranger on the street for directions to a destiny than we will ask our Heavenly Father for knowledge to navigate through life (or even a single day). What are we so fearful of?
Yes, fearful of being asked to do something that might result in “depriving” ourselves of a favorite food, drink, or habit addiction. Worse even, we fear that GOD will ask us to befriend that hurtful individual in our lives or confront the one who doesn’t seem to realize they’re crushing our spirits with their harmful words or behavior.
But what if asking GOD to be filled meant that we would ultimately grow into the person we are meant to be? The real design ~ the authentic you and me. Would it be worth it?
Just what if asking Him to fill us would include His peace, compassion, love, mercy, understanding, patience, forgiveness, hope, calm, joy …
“Fill me up, Lord! And don’t stop, even to overflowing!” And maybe it will spill onto the people in my path to cause them to want more of Him.
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~
