15 Be happy with those who are happy, and be sad with those who are sad. Romans 12:15 NCV
16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so God can heal you. When a believing person prays, great things happen. James 5:16 NCV
Today we pick up where we left off two days ago, joining in on the conversation with Dr. Henry Cloud discussing what the Bible says about mental health.
I, for one, am so glad that we have finally come to a place in our current culture where mental health is not a whispered phrase, hushed by onlookers who are looking down their noses at those who dare utter those words.
If only more Christ followers would come around ….
The Church, in my opinion, has the gifted responsibility to caring for the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and soul. And I believe that’s because we are eternal beings, we are not intended to separate the integrated parts of ourselves, choosing which part has greater importance. The Lord GOD created us as a whole being; so we should strive to live as a whole person.
Also, because we are the Body of Christ, all the more we should be exemplifying the compassionate heart of Jesus, overflowing with empathy for one another. If I am totally honest, the Church at large is lacking. And we have work to do to fix that.
The stigma that surrounds mental health is such a judgmental and condescending weight to put on someone ~ anyone. At anytime, for any reason, a person can be in need of medical attention for their body; and they readily receive it, no questions asked. Why is it that when the inside of our minds needs the same level of attention do we cast shame for the one seeking healing?
I’ve read some theologians believe that Mary of Magdala may have suffered from mental health issues. And that when Jesus healed her, those plaguing demons suddenly left her and she was made whole (again). Wouldn’t that be like Jesus to cast out the weight of her torment and heal her without condemning her for having suffered?
Jesus healed (and still heals) all manner of disease and illnesses known to man. They may have called them different names, nonetheless, they were conditions that caused great pain and agony in both the mental emotional and physical realms.
Come and sit for a bit, listen to the conclusion of this priceless discussion among friends as they share their own testimonies of the past that Jesus healed them from, and take to heart what they have learned from it.
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~
