8 “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!”
Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” John 13:8 NLT
28 for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. Matthew 26:28 NLT
When Jesus died in our place, He established a relationship in the form of a covenant between us and GOD the Father.
A covenant means that we are seen for who we are (our identity) in Christ, and not a result of anything we’ve done personally. It’s all because of what Jesus has done. Nothing more, nothing less. And certainly nothing that we could ever think to add to His work, no matter how noble or well intended. When He said on the cross, “It is finished,” He put the period on that chapter.
We, who have accepted that act of love and redemption provided by the death of Jesus in our place (we deserved that penalty), have been washed clean of all sin (past, present, and future), because we declare our allegiance to Him as our Savior and surrender to Him as our Lord.
Life isn’t perfect, and we still struggle through the daily grind. However, knowing that we aren’t held bound by the imposed labels of man and condemned for our human failures, and are even guaranteed glorious life after death is something worth celebrating.
It’s time for a party ~ take a moment and join us!
