“Nothing, But …”

The blaring sound of the alarm penetrated the room like an invasion from outer space. It’s obnoxious and insensitive declaration that it was another day had made itself known throughout the house.

I just want to pull the covers over my head and die.”

She had all but given up on what some would have called her last attempt at normalcy. Extended now beyond her means in debt to family, friends and neighbors — the cycle of madness seemed to be closing in on her and there appeared no way out of her personal dilemma. Life was beyond mere shambles.

  • Girlfriend, have you ever found yourself to be in such a hot mess that you wanted to escape to another planet and fade into the sunset?
  • Maybe that’s your current status. Is it possible that I’ve just peeked into the peep hole of your life and caught a glimpse of internal turmoil that you’ve been working overtime to conceal and camouflage behind forced smiles and busyness of activities?
  • Does it feel as though life has bottomed out and you’re falling into an abyss of uncertainty?

One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out “My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the LORD. But now a creditor has come threatening to take my two sons as slaves.” What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied. 2 Kings 4:1-2 NLT

Just when we think we’ve considered all of our options, GOD pulls back the veil that obscured our view and allows us to feast our eyes on a glimmer of hope. That’s all it takes. And all too often, that’s all we have.

But GOD says, “I’ll take that.”

For many of us, the fear of the unknown tomorrows grips our souls like falling without a parachute. Not knowing if we will land safely on solid ground, or if we will be able to walk after landing.

If this is your situation today, Sister, I encourage you to reach out to someone you trust who will love on you and pray with you.

  • Write down exactly what your situation is — details, deadlines, people involved — everything.
  • Take it to the Lord in prayer and share with your trusted friend who may be able to help you sort out and sift through obstacles blocking your view.
  • Pray for wisdom to make decisions and for GOD to lead you to resources He wants you to use.

And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim! “Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons. “There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing. 2 Kings 4:3-6 NLT

I’ll admit that the mystery of GOD’s Thoughts cannot be grasped by my limited human thought process. There are moments when I know that He is instructing me to act on something in a manner contrary to what I would do. But when you know that it is His Voice that you hear, there is no room for negotiation and all human reasoning goes out the window. So when he gives directives to shut the door to outside influences that would tell you to do otherwise, you simply follow through and shut the door.

When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her, “Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on what is left over.” 2 Kings 4:7 NLT

In these few short verses we witness the amazing power of GOD working through His Prophet, Elisha. A woman in dire straits had gone to him and bore her soul, unloading all her woes. She withheld nothing, but received everything.

When she thought she was without, Hope stepped into her world and made a way. GOD does that. He did it for her and He can do it for you.

Jesus Christ is [eternally changeless, always] the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 AMP

  • What next steps do you now need to take?

Journal all your activity from start to finish. You will want to read this later after it is all said and done, so that you can share it with the ones coming up behind you.

I’ll be praying for you, Girlfriend.

I love you to Heaven and Back ~~
