“When Frustration is in the Almost There But Not Quite”

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.  For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. Hebrews 10:35-36 ESV

Have you ever watched a small child get frustrated with themselves to the point of throwing a fit?

As a mom of three children, I can recall the days when I stood in the background observing the behavior of each one of my kids while they worked on a project. It could have been a school project or a puzzle or a toy. But I silently watched from afar as they sought to make things happen on their own.

Sure enough, when that puzzle piece didn’t fit, or that popsicle stick didn’t stay glued, or that Lego tower fell, or that math problem remained a problem … there was that moment of piercing the silence.

Our Scripture verse today encourages us to not give up; to hold on to our confidence.

When we know that we are doing the right thing, showing up and being faithful — sometimes that’s all that we are expected to do. And that’s not a consolation option. It may not feel like a whole lot of impact at the time, but Sister, it’s what we don’t see that’s happening with what we’re giving out.

Confidence is trust in what GOD has declared as His Promises to us. The rewards that await us at the end of the Journey far outweigh what our limited minds could possibly comprehend. Our Scripture verse urges us to ‘not throw away’ our confidence — don’t give up, keep pressing forward in our faith no matter what that may look like in the moment.

Endurance is the stuff that victories are made from. We push through and persevere. That crown and those words: “Well done good and faithful servant. Enter now into My Rest,” — that is the great eternal reward. Endurance is a trait that develops over time and is generally met with great resistance because of the presence of a challenging circumstance.

In the life lessons that I (am) learn(ing) — notice my openness to admit that it’s an ongoing process — I’ve come to see that when GOD puts a vision in my view, a dream in my heart, or a strong desire in my soul, He is Faithful to see it through from start to finish. But the process is where I live out my gratitude by showing up for the teaching. Sometimes that teaching appears in the form of actually doing things (study, research, listening to experts, etc.) so that I can have GOD load up my tool belt. Through it all, my faith is what keeps me moving forward — even when I don’t see anything significant going on around me.

But GOD … is causing the transformation from inside of me.

Now faith brings our hopes into reality and becomes the foundation needed to acquire the things we long for. It is all the evidence required to prove what is still unseen. Hebrews 11:1 TPT

Sister, are you an athlete, chef, designer, musical artist, writer, speaker, executive, business owner, entrepreneur, teacher, coach, MOM (yes, that was intentional)? Look over your shoulder at what you went through in training and working out your craft … there’s a treasury of experiences in those years, and I believe you’ll agree with me they were not all forged in comfort. The temptation to give up was always there — but we didn’t. We knew that this gift (dream, vision, burning desire) that was deposited within us had to be cultivated and nurtured or we would burst.

Lean in with me, Sweet Friend … the One Who planted the seed of vision within our heart and soul, has promised to see the process all the way to its completion. As I see this from an aerial perspective, it’s a total win-win situation if we choose to surrender to the Will of GOD. He Who is the foundation of our faith would not encourage us to simply let us fail. Neither would He leave us to fend for ourselves. His promise is to fuel us with courage and strength for the journey.

  • Write down those things that you are presently forging through the fire.
  • What keeps you pressing forward?
  • Compare and Contrast: The benefits of perseverance versus the detriment of giving up. Include who would be impacted by your decision.

As you review your responses to the questions above, does this change your initial reactions to your present situation?

Moving along this journey, be mindful of the directional ‘changes’ that GOD may whisper to you. Not saying that He will alter your dreams and visions. But be aware that the more in tune with the Holy Spirit, the more keen our ‘hearing.’ Being flexible and adaptable goes a long way in the grand scheme of things. It’s a good thing to remember that His Ways are higher than ours.

The period of time between the beginning and the end is nothing new to mankind. Jesus’ Disciples all shared the same anticipation of His Return. In fact, all New Testament Believers (yes, that includes us) anxiously await His imminent Return. And sometimes we groan with exasperation over the present state of things, often frustrated with the apparent ineffectiveness our plans and projects may have on the current circumstances.

Does this sound like a parallel to the child who cannot grasp why her puzzle pieces don’t quite fit or the popsicle stick refuses to remain stuck?

Our faith in doing the work even while it doesn’t make sense — actually makes all the sense to keep going. It’s while we’re in the process that we don’t realize that things are happening. Maybe because we miss seeing that the impact we are hoping to physically see on the outside — ‘onto something / someone’ — is actually taking place within us.

The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. Psalm 138:8. NKJV

Keep showing up. Keep going. Keep working. Keep your eyes on the prize: Jesus. It will happen and it will all make perfect sense.

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
