This song grabbed my attention — you know how some just do that? The words evoke such emotion that connected with my spirit, that I couldn’t let it go. And to be honest, I had to do some research about the honey in the rock. What does that mean?
Psalm 81, as you will hear Brook explain during the brief interview at the end of this brief worship time, is where those precious words are found. And as you may have suspected, they refer to Jesus.
But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” Psalm 81:16 ESV
Rocks are hard. They hurt when we step on them, trip over them, bump into them. But if I’m honest, Friend, I can attest to walls being built from rocks. And so many times (too many to count), I slam up against a wall in my journey and wonder, “Why, GOD?” Why am I stopped right here? Why am I blocked from moving forward? Why have You allowed for this impasse?
Not all roadblocks are hazards. Not all halts to a project are destructive to the project. Some actually save us from further ruin. The ruins we would have experienced had we insisted on our own way, our blueprinted plans, our masterminded agendas. Yes, some of those walls or boulders actually protect us.
I find it interesting that Jesus is referred to as our Rock of Salvation.
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. 2 Samuel 22:3 ESV
From Him all goodness flows. The hard lessons of life that yielded character (as you hear Brandon express of his personal experience), could not be found to be worthwhile and meaningful in any other person, place or resource.
There’s a sweetness in that Rock.
Come and replay it again and again, Friend. Let it take you through the track record that you have with the Lord so that you can remember that He is your firm foundation.
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
