“Who Do Men Say That I Am?”

26 “But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me. 27 And you must also testify about me because you have been with me from the beginning of my ministry. John 15:26-27 NLT

48 You are witnesses of all these things. Luke 24:48 NLT

This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us. 1 John 1:2 NLT

When I Googled the definition of the word, testimony, here is one that I found: evidence or proof provided by the existence or appearance of something. The origins come from the Latin word: testimonium, testis, a witness.

So, then the question becomes, what are all these well-known professional athletes giving witness to? And what’s the big deal?

Let’s face it, people don’t give time and space in prime opportunity to mention something that is of no value to them. People highly acclaimed for their accomplishments, achievements and notoriety generally speak of things that continue to elevate their reputation because they know these words will follow them wherever they go long after they’ve been spoken.

Listen to each one of these testimonies. They point to and highlight, drawing attention to a Person. The Person of Jesus Christ. That’s the BIG Deal.

Let’s not pick apart the testimonies nor the owners of them. While we all are perfectly imperfect, how many of us looking in the mirror right now have ever taken the time to sit in front of millions of people and a microphone to declare and give praise to GOD, when the moment was ripe for us to invite others to idolize us and our achievements?

To what or whom do you bear witness?

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

1“Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”

15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:13-16 NLT

    1. Sharon: So glad that both you and Art were able to view and be blessed by all these testimonies. It is my hope that more people will see that there is HOPE, even in unsuspecting places.
