When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place, Psalm 8:3 NIV
Omnipotent. According to the Oxford dictionary omnipotent has its roots in Latin and means having unlimited power; able to do anything; having ultimate power and influence.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega [the Beginning and the End],” says the Lord God, “Who is [existing forever] and Who was [continually existing in the past] and Who is to come, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all].” Revelation 1:8 Amplified
Who else can be worthy of such an attribute? Certainly nothing carved out of human hands or anything that we could conjure up in our minds.
God is not a human being, and he will not lie.
He is not a human, and he does not change his mind.
What he says he will do, he does.
What he promises, he makes come true. Numbers 23:19 NCV
In our limited human strength, we can forge ahead all we want, be determined to accomplish XYZ, set our sights and mind to attaining this or that … but at the end of the day … we have to confess that we know all too well that the outcome is subject to an entirely different result. To be honest, we have to admit that we don’t have it all under control — because we are not in control.
“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Jeremiah 1:5a NLT
He knew us before the foundations of the world — because He created us. We were being thought of long before the sun began to shine. That’s a far cry from us having to be reminded of His existence.
If you’re like me, you may have to experience some very unpleasant (and usually unexpected) circumstances in order come to a grinding halt and realize that I am nothing without His Breath in me. I can do absolutely nothing without His wisdom or his mercy.
1 Lord, you have examined me
and know all about me.
2 You know when I sit down and when I get up.
You know my thoughts before I think them.
3 You know where I go and where I lie down.
You know everything I do.
4 Lord, even before I say a word,
you already know it.
5 You are all around me—in front and in back—
and have put your hand on me.
6 Your knowledge is amazing to me;
it is more than I can understand.7 Where can I go to get away from your Spirit?
Where can I run from you?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there.
If I lie down in the grave, you are there.
9 If I rise with the sun in the east
and settle in the west beyond the sea,
10 even there you would guide me.
With your right hand you would hold me. Psalm 139:1-10 NCV
Come and celebrate the awesome fact that we are not in charge, but that the One Who is loves us more than we could ever imagine! Truthfully, I don’t want that kind of responsibility — I wouldn’t last a fraction of a millisecond.
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
