“What Are You Paired To?”

You’ve just bought your new wireless headphones. You tear into the box, bypass the instructions sheet and hit the switch button to the ‘on’ mode. Just then you remember the headphones have been sitting idle in a factory box for who knows how long — without power.

You attach the recharging cables, see the light(s) blinking and anxiously wait for red to become green. Wait. Wait. Wait.

Finally, hours later, your headphones are now ready to take their maiden voyage and connect with your device. They must be paired to the source.

If only it were so simple for us to connect and pair with our Power Source. The Holy Spirit doesn’t install a divine switch for us to be one with Him. Our connectivity is grounded in a much deeper place. That secret place where only GOD Himself can dwell within us when we invite Him in to have His Lordship over our lives.

so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:6 NIV

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 ESV

We are created beings with free will to choose how we will live. That said, we also have the power to decide what we will entertain in our hearts and minds. What we entertain and dwell upon — those things that we give our energy and time to — those are our treasures. And we will fight to keep those things protected.

If you’re like me, I like calm and peaceful days; that is always the preference. But as we both know, that is not always the outcome. Unfortunately, we can go days, weeks, months (and in some cases) years without that calm and peace. And that is definitely not by choice.

However, in the midst of a world turning upside down, or spinning wildly out of control, we can remain in tact on a deeper level. That faith level. That peaceful calm that pours over us when we are losing our minds but holding on tightly through the faith (even if it seems like a thread) that keeps us connected to our GOD and Savior.

6-7 Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. Philippians 4:7 The Message

“What or Who is your power source? How do you maintain connectivity?”

Just as easy as your headphones drop connection when not paired to your power source, we can also experience a lack of growth, personal communion, sense of presence when not connected to our GOD. In essence, we’ve gone idle and risk becoming dried up.

Come close to the one true God, and He will draw close to you. Wash your hands; you have dirtied them in sin. Cleanse your heart, because your mind is split down the middle, your love for God on one side and selfish pursuits on the other. James 4:8 The Voice

I’ve had moments when frustration got the best of me. Not understanding that in order to pair two devices, there must not be anything else nearby that can interfere with that connectivity. In some instances, the two devices must be touching for the pairing to occur.

“Is there an obstruction, distraction or person that is creating an unwanted interference between you and GOD?”

If you’re seeking that unbroken flow of connectivity to the Power Source of your soul, the One Who can do things beyond your imagination … the One Who gave all because He loves you so much …

20 God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. Ephesians 3:20 The Message

Perhaps it is time to pair down and remove whatever is blocking your way.

Come close to God, and he will come close to you. James 4:8 GWT

We fall, stumble, smack our heads against concrete of worldly values — but we need those bumps and bruises to convince our stubborn selves we can’t live fully being connected to desires, or even to ourselves. We cannot bring about that joy and fulfillment that our hearts yearn for.

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10 ESV

No complicated step-by-step process to reconnect. In fact, if you simply want to establish a connection you don’t even have to wait for any formal introduction. Speak your heart, Sweet Friend, He’s waiting to pair with you now.

10 The Lord your God will delight in you if you obey his voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this Book of Instruction, and if you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. Deuteronomy 30:10 NLT
