So many of us commit to learning new things and doing better with our lives, especially at the start of the new year.
But just days into this new start we come to realize it all takes work and effort on our part — some of which we didn’t have the slightest clue would be demanded of us in order to succeed.
Some of us made the decision to ‘go large’ on our ambitions with the intent to make a positive impact on the lives of others in our midst while also reaping some of the benefits. And now suffer from fear of failure to go the distance. Time to get real and lean into and call upon the Helper Who is ready to respond.
“What are you trusting the Lord to do in this season?”
Have you sat down with Him to inquire what it is that He desires for you to put your hands to work on? The conversation has to start somewhere. Or, are you ‘waiting on the Lord’ and just sitting still hoping that He’ll make the first move?
Perhaps that’s exactly where all of this needs to start — at the beginning.
Could ‘trusting Him’ be the first topic on the docket? Can you say that you honestly trust Him with whatever is keeping you up at night? Do you have the confidence to declare that you will follow through with His instructions to you — even if it didn’t make sense?
The Lord said to Abram,
“Leave your land,
your relatives,
and your father’s home.
Go to the land that I will show you. Genesis 12:1 GWT
If it’s any comfort to know, you would be in good company. GOD did that with Abraham.
Trust the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths smooth. Proverbs 3:5-6 GWT
King Solomon, the man who sought the wisdom of GOD, has much to say about this. He appeals to us to fully lean into — letting go of our own human wisdom and strength — and to fall into the Arms of Wisdom Himself.
If you’re like me, having failed horribly at keeping resolutions and tempted to just give up and sulk — come to our senses and say, “Okay, GOD, I’ve tried it my way and it just doesn’t work. Show me Your Way …” It’s embarrassing to think about it … like how many times do I have to bang my head against the wall before I realize that’s not how to get wisdom into it?
Will you join me today in opening up those tired, fist-clenched fingers and ask the Lord to also open up your heart to what He has in store for you in this season? I believe He has great things on the horizon for both of us.
Those who know the Lord trust him,
because he will not leave those who come to him. Psalm 9:10 NCV
