“Discipline Yourself to Trust God Over Your Idols” – Jackie Hill Perry

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35 NIV

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
Proverbs 3:5 NIV

If you’re anything like me, you have the tendency to look to external sources to help ease the burden of the daily grind. And while these external things may not appear on the surface to be necessarily harmful, nonetheless, they are not in our best interests.

I’m a do-er kinda gal — love to set up the day with a to-do list and get tremendous satisfaction from checking off as many boxes as possible. There’s something that happens in a brain like mine that just feels that sudden elation when a task is completed. The internal bells ring and the confetti goes flying.

But when you’re also a GOD-girl that has placed her life in the Hands that bare nail scars, you have to admit that when you’re sluggishly moving through a day where you’re basically avoiding a pressing matter that is unsettled between you and GOD, you wrestle with facing the music. There’s that innate human nature that wants to (as Jackie Hill Perry calls it) ‘medicate’ by defaulting into completely unrelated behaviors.

Come listen with me as the ladies around this table discuss with amazing transparency how they recognize their need to press into their Heavenly Father to really get to the heart of what they’re (and we) are trying to dodge.

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~
