When I first came to Jesus, I attended a small community church where we sang so many of the classic songs. We had a full blend in the overall collection, with a lot of what was then considered contemporary (thank you Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Second Chapter of Acts, Benny Hester, GLAD, Keith Greene, Russ Taft, to name a few), but there’s something about those old familiar hymns that made it possible for me to recite and memorize Scripture with greater ease. Those have left an indelible mark on my heart and I am eternally grateful to those authors, lyricists and artists.
This worshipful song of praise that I share with you today, in the featured collaboration between some of the most loved artists of today, just doesn’t get any better. Seventy-five years later, this beloved hymn continues to bless us and those whose voices lift up to heaven to deliver the praise most worthy to Whom its words resound.
As a small child in the church, I had no idea that ‘hymns’ were songs. My childlike mind had thought that a ‘hymn’ was actually a ‘him.’ And maybe I wasn’t so far off. After all, it is all about Him.
