A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT
The heartfelt counsel of a friend
is as sweet as perfume and incense. Proverbs 27:9 NLT
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 NLT
Building a community doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to go on a recruitment campaign to rally in people to join you. It can be as simple as being “the first one” to extend a smile or a hand of assistance or an invitation for coffee.
The one critical element required: time and love. Time to build bonds and love and acceptance as the foundation.
Sincerity (or the lack of) can be easily detected and can influence the development of friendships or relational bonds. Compassion, empathy, and understanding come alongside and allow for vulnerability, trust, and camaraderie to blend authentic personas and give way to healthy circles.
I truly appreciate this discussion among such friends. They reveal some very hurtful moments in their personal lives so that those of us who may be presently experiencing similar hardships can begin to heal and be hopeful.
Perhaps you’ve experienced disappointment in friendships, or betrayal, or possibly ‘disappearances’ of people whom you had come to love and depend upon. Maybe past hurts have prevented you from allowing people to enter into your life.
I’m so sorry you’ve had those experiences. And I want to tell you all friendships don’t end that way. In fact, if you’re open to developing new ones, the Lord will bring them. Just ask and pray that you’ll be receptive to those loving people.
Whatever your situation or season of healing you are in regarding friendships, this discussion may be the launchpad from which you enter into a journey with Jesus leading you into a closer relationship with Him first, in order for you to further pursue connection with others.
It is my prayer that healing will begin, if not continue from this moment forward. We all need to do life with other women believers in Christ. We need our Sisters.
