4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them? Psalm 8:4 NIV
Those are exactly my thoughts. Who am I that You would take the time to even notice me, let alone tend to my every need …
One of my favorite Bible scholars on the planet, Dr. Lisa D. Harper, PhD, says it something like this: “The GOD of the universe bends down to condescend and reach down to touch me … He stoops for me …” Those aren’t her exact words, so don’t get upset with me. But I think you get the picture.
The Sovereign Lord, GOD Almighty, El Shaddai, Yahweh, extends His reach to get up close and personal with me … this crazy, messy, so very imperfect human being … and takes notice of my every thought, move, emotion … knows when I need to talk to Him and has already given me His attention, as though I am the only person kneeling before Him … takes my breath away!
Boggles my mind, that with all the wars, international conflicts, social issues, inhumanity, disease, death, and dying … that GOD would make space for puny me. And that’s what king David also thought when he reflectively penned those humble words.
Sometimes we just need to sit with that for a bit. You know, like the Bible says, Selah.
It’s very possible that you needed to hear this today. That perhaps in recent days you’ve experienced a few miracles (let’s start with waking up …) and you haven’t yet taken the time to say, “Thank You” to the One responsible.
I know that it’s far too easy to just jump outta bed and get the day going, do all the things, and forget that you had nothing to do with the breath in your lungs and the blood pushing through your veins. We humans take so much for granted.
Are we living life from one desperate moment to the next, only acknowledging GOD when it seems like we’ve run out of options? Let’s be sure to align our priorities so that He is our immediate go-to whether things are good or bad.
