Thankful Thursday

Sometimes it just feels like an uphill climb all the way — can anyone relate?

I remember several years ago when my kids were very young and we were watching one of those nature documentaries on TV. There was a segment about the life of salmon. I won’t forget seeing the fish and hearing the narrator say, ” … and they swim upstream to spawn and then they die …” Not exactly the best words for a mom with three littles and a full time job outside of the home. I was already feeling exhausted but that put me over the top.

For those few moments in time, I felt like those salmon. All the effort it took to get to the place of ‘finally making it,’ (and what that meant at the time, Sister was merely making it to the end of the day) only to die.

But as our Scripture verse emphatically reminds us that GOD gives us the victory, we do not work through this life in futility. Yes, we put in some hard days. And yes, there are days where it feels as though there is no progress coming through on the other end.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58 NLT

Knowing Christ makes all the difference in living! My focus is not on the temporal things of this world, but on the eternal things of His Kingdom. And while I know that this lump of clay that I am can only do so much with these human hands, I am less inclined (notice I said ‘less’) to expect myself to put out more than I can or should.

So whether my battle is against my own thoughts or forces in the unseen realm, I have the full confidence that my Omnipotent GOD has already declared the victory.

I taught my kids a phrase when they were little: “If GOD says it, I believe it, that settles it!” And might I say that I never got debated after that.

  • What victory do you need to let GOD handle for you today? Write it out so that you can see it.
  • Write out a prayer of THANKS to the Lord for His Victory has already taken care of your matter.

I’ll share something my friend, Julie, told me: “I have to remember to step aside and not get in His Way.”

Be sure to step aside, Sister, so that you can watch and see what GOD can do. You’ll probably get a better view from your new seat.

Father GOD, I praise You for the fact that I can come boldly to Your Throne of Grace to lay out my battles, concerns and worries. These things that seem oh, so HUGE to my finite mind pale against Your Mighty Hand. I thank You for covering me with your love while You handle my cares, and for giving me the strength and courage to know that I don’t have to live this life alone and in my own strength. In the mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
