Thankful Thursday

You will be abundantly enriched in every way as you give generously on every occasion, for when we take your gifts to those in need, it causes many to give thanks to God. 2 Corinthians 9:11 The Passion Translation

There’s an unspoken legacy in our family that testifies to this very Scripture.

Our family originates from across the Pacific Ocean and into Asia. That being said, there are greater opportunities for enriched living in places when you head west. The legacy makers of my family are those who ventured out and in search of a better economy, they prioritized the ones “back home” and worked to survive them by sending financial and material aid.

When I consider their commitment to the welfare of others in so many different ways — providing for educational tuition, assisting with securing homes, offering aid for health and medical needs — it deepens my passion for reaching back to the ones coming up behind me by enlarging their world spiritually. And in so doing, the recipients are double-blessed as they realize their blessings of material and spiritual needs are met thoroughly by The Lord Himself.

The privilege to provide for others is one which we must grab onto and push forward. Like a large clay pot that is filled with fresh water to pour out in service to those who are thirsty, we are replenished by pouring out. And we will continue to be refreshed and refilled.

Maybe this is your call to be a legacy maker — you can be the one to begin a new tradition that your children and their children and their children can carry on into the generations beyond yourself. This may be the landmark year that those generations look back and thank you for prioritizing them into the future.

“You will also decide and decree a thing, and it will be established for you;
And the light [of God’s favor] will shine upon your ways. Job 22:28 Amplified

Take some time today to consider what impactful ways you can begin leaving your legacy of Christ for the generations to come. Maybe it will begin with a journal of prayers … or a scrapbook of photos that showcase events when the Lord answered prayer … or a collection of thank you notes that you save from others … or a treasury of devotionals and your personal notations about how they ministered to your soul during difficult times.

However you wish to establish it, do it confidently knowing that as you honor the Lord, He will firmly establish your future and your legacy — because He is in it.
