Join Me for Tea on Thursday

There’s just something about the closeness of endearing friends that warms my heart in a unique way. I’m not talking about all the people in your contacts — I’m talking about those sweet friends that will speak truth into your space when you can’t see straight. The girlfriends that are willing to cry and pray with you through the ugly times, the ones who will wake you up from your stubborn slumber and remind you that you’re the Daughter of the King of Kings … those friends.

When I wonder about the way I choose my friends … it’s usually because someone has brought it to my attention. Either in a devotional or book or sermon. Recently this subject of friendship has me thinking …

Do I lay out the ‘welcome mat’ for others so that they feel genuinely invited? Or do I build a fence with a lock and put a guard at the entrance?

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 NKJV

I know what it’s like to feel awkward in the friendship zone. As a child, I was not welcomed in many environments, so I learned to shut the door to others. As an adult, that can be a very lonely place in a crowded room. Can anyone relate?

But by the Grace of GOD, other Believers took me in … invited me into their lives … showed me ‘how’ to extend the hand of friendship through fellowship. And I am eternally grateful for their patience and love through those times when I felt inept and blundered.

I love how the this same Scripture is voiced in a different translation:

Some friendships don’t last for long, but there is one loving friend who is joined to your heart closer than any other! Proverbs 18:24 The Passion Translation

I want others to feel welcomed and invited when I meet them. And beyond that, I hope that they’ll feel welcomed to ‘return’ whenever they want to. To have people walk away after having spent time with us, feeling like they just met their next friend-for-life, is giving them part of who we are.

And hopefully that’s Jesus.

In the Comments, share what go-to verse best describes friendship for you. I’d love to add to my list by including your verses.

Until our next Tea Time …

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
