Treasures on Thursday

When my children were small, they had this habit of collecting rocks and bringing them to me. Some of these ‘treasures’ were found in their lunchboxes or in the pockets of pants worn to school. At times, when out on casual excursions with them, whenever their tiny eyes would catch a glimpse of one shining in the not-so-far-off-distance, they would run to grab it and hurry to bring it to me.

They were proud of all their found treasures. And not wanting to miss a single one, they would clutch it in their fist and not let go until they could place it into my hands. Then they would release it to me and say, “Here mom, this is for you to keep.” They would carefully hand it over and remind me, “Now, don’t lose it.”

The words found in the Bible can be treasures to a searching soul.

My child, listen to what I say,
    and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom,
    and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
    and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
    seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him. Proverbs 2:1-8 NLT

Taking GOD seriously is putting trust in what He says. If you know Him through His Son, Jesus Christ, you can expect Him to deliver on all His Promises. If He says He will freely give you wisdom when you seek for it with a sincere heart, He will definitely and liberally give to you.

That godly wisdom is to be treasured and not merely casted aside for when terrible things happen in life. Like all things that we crave and deeply desire, the treasure of wisdom must be pursued with enthusiasm and intentionality. And then she must be guarded and protected — so that we don’t neglect her, we must have a relationship with her. To demonstrate that, we must exercise that wisdom in daily living. That will be the evidence that our treasures are not growing dusty, rusty or musty.

Are there treasures in your possession that you’ve forgotten about? Maybe this is the time to talk to GOD about bringing them back out.

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
