“The Hard Good” by Lisa Whittle

I will admit that I was a bit hesitant to pick this one up — because I just knew that there was something in it that was going to challenge me.

Good comes from the hard. I get it now, Lisa. And yes, you had me from the start. It’s not too often that I’m highlighting as I read to find that the very next page reveals that the author has pulled the quote to really drive home the impact of her teaching statement. This happened all throughout the book for me. My heart was melted at each parked spot.

From my little corner, I can say that I don’t like stepping out of my comfort zone too often, if at all at that. But this isn’t about that trite comment of ‘move out in faith’ sort of thing. Instead, this is a real opportunity for the reader to experience the whispers of GOD to penetrate her very being so that she can not only faithfully trust GOD for the next move, but to press into Him when it just flat out contradicts every fiber of her being. Because things that GOD asks us to do aren’t always easy. And they certainly don’t always feel good.

Reading this through to the end helped me to not just see the Good (Jesus) at the end of each trial and difficulty that I faced. It helped me come to grips with the fact He is with me through all those ugly moments along the way and that much like the way I would tell my children when they were young that those veggies on their plate were good for them, to obey is better than wishing for the event to go away.

Because we grow from it all, we learn to fall in love with the Creator that made us in Him Image, Who desires only the best for us and promises to give us the best if we will learn to trust Him for the goodness at the end of it all.

“Lisa, you made me cry at certain places in your book. I mourned not having read this so much earlier in my life. But I am so thankful that you poured yourself onto those precious pages and invited me in to experience your words of wisdom and insight. I feel as though you know me before we even met. I have found a treasured friend in you.”

I love you to Heaven and Back, Lisa ~~
