Thirty Seconds Thursday

Myopia. Sounds more like a dessert rather than a medical condition but is far from it. A life-long companion of mine that I wish would just go find some other place to be. Year after year of eye exams, prescriptions, contact lenses, eyeglasses … and now I’m at that part in my life where myopia decides she wants to invite her friend, presbyopia, to come join the party.

Myopia, an eye condition most commonly known as nearsightedness, came to live with me as a child in the 6th grade — right before starting middle school and at the onset of puberty. Wonderful. Not only were the sweat glands going to be in overdrive, but now the awkwardness of foreign frames were going to be sliding down my nose.

Presbyopia, an eye condition that usually strikes middle age (however you wish to pinpoint that), kept her distance for an extra 15 years beyond her anticipated arrival. This is commonly recognized by the “arms-too-short” syndrome and adults are seen having to hold objects further from their faces in order to read.

When a myopic individual suddenly becomes presbyopic, she has to make adjustments with bifocal prescriptions or readers (to accompany the contact lenses). In essence, your life now requires extra accessories.

If you have slightly less than perfect vision, you understand the frustration of having to find the right lighting, right font size, right distance — in order to read what is in front of you. I’m even finding that if my eyes are fatigued, no matter what I do, the clarity is just not there.

When it comes to spiritual acuity, sometimes what we pray for or believe GOD for, just doesn’t seem to come into focus. No matter what we do. Fasting, praying all night, calling upon prayer warriors … it just seems to not be on the visible horizon.

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6 NLT

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7 NLT

Hit the pause button here.

If GOD is supreme and above all — including our human minds, thoughts, emotions and physical sight — who are we to say that what we have prayed for, surrendered to Him — is not already done?

Believing that GOD is good and He loves all His Children (those who have been adopted through the blood of Jesus Christ) should we not also believe that this thing we are seeking has already been ‘handled’ by the Only One Who can?

Trusting Him for His divine handling — the timing, the manifestation, the preparation of our hearts — we have declared that this GOD-sized project is out of our hands and into His. And what it looks like when it arrives, will reveal He knows best. Always.

So, if you are carrying a GOD-sized project that has your eyes straining to see a specific human resolution, you may be seeing things out of focus. While we are expecting to see pretty pixels, He may have prepared indescribable perfection. And we never could have imagined to see such a sight.

Will you join me for the next Thirty Seconds in turning our skewed view of our circumstances over to the Lord — all of it (all means all, Friend) — and allow Him to provide the perspective and vision for us to see something far better than we even asked for?

Expect Jesus to blow your mind.

“Father GOD, I thank you for the awesome privilege to come to the Throne of Grace because Jesus made it possible. I praise You for the fact that as your Child, I can speak my heart with boldness and You lovingly listen. You know the details of my weary heart, Lord, and I know none of this takes You by surprise. You, O GOD, are trustworthy and faithful. You are with me in every moment of this GOD-sized project. I ask for the strength and courage to keep trusting You for Your Ways — even when I cannot see straight and especially when I cannot see the next step in front of me. Prepare my heart for how You will answer my prayers, because I know that it will be extraordinary. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
