Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat. Mark 6:31 NLT
Children have that unlimited supply of energy that can run circles around the Energizer Bunny. As adults, we wish we could harness some of that and drink it in doses throughout the day. But even though we are running on fumes and about to collapse, we simply keep going.
Jesus recognized similar circumstances with His inner circle. His Disciples were so caught up in serving the people that they were beginning to neglect some much needed self-care. So, He urged them to just drop what they were doing and take the time to go and be with Him in solitude.
I like that. A self-imposed and intentional timeout.

It’s good to be productive and selfless with our time and resources. But let’s face it: we cannot give what we don’t have. An empty vessel has nothing to pour out.
Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered. Proverbs 11:25 ESV
The Scriptures tell of when Jesus went off on His own to capture some peace and quiet. I believe this was to model that Believers must care also for the body. So, let’s do that without the self-imposed guilt or feeling as though we are missing out on moments to get things done. It will all get done and it would serve us well to exhale and take the timeout even if it is necessary to repeat it more than once in a single day.
