1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2 NIV
Is it just me, or are there a lot of distractions as we travel throughout our day? Digital billboards on freeways and highways. Neon lights that make the streets glow after dark. In fact, in the suburbs the skies ‘glow’ with street lamps and residential lights to the point it’s hard to go to sleep unless you have blackout drapes over your windows. Anyone relate?
Our days are filled enough to the brim with loud noise, construction noise, white noise, people noise, traffic noise … with very little windows of peace and calm to settle our thoughts. It’s a wonder that at the end of the day we’re a frazzled tangled mess.
In a world full of distractions and stuff just begging for our attention, sometimes it can be difficult to know where to fix our view. That lens from which we decide how we live is based on what we focus on.
I’ve heard it said, “What we stare at, we eventual steer towards.” Let that sit with you for a bit.
That being sad, it would be reasonable to say that we’d better be certain of where we keep our eyes focused. Because that’s where we’re headed.
8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. Matthew 17:8 NIV
There’s always the opportunity to see ‘good’ things all around. But not all things are necessary. The filter we place on our hearts is equally important so that we are truly looking to see He Who watches after our every step and is faithful to be there when we call on Him.
All you have to do is look up,
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
