“Releasing the Desire to Be Perfect” ~ Ann Voskamp

But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you. When you are weak, my power is made perfect in you.” So I am very happy to brag about my weaknesses. Then Christ’s power can live in me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 NCV

Any one else suffer from perfectionism? As women we tend to have the propensity to want to fulfill all the needs of others, check all the boxes for the day (week, month, year all in a single throw), hit the bar of perfection (if not push it higher), and set a criteria for ourselves to exceed the mark the next time around. It’s no wonder we’re fatigued out of our minds.

I so appreciate this transparent conversation among friends. They all openly reveal their life experiences as Jesus had peeled back the layers to show them that when He said, “It is finished,” it included our personal struggles to perfect our life’s work.

There’s a lot of insight packed into this session, and it’s all drawn from the Scriptures. It’s beautifully woven to give us the space to do some self-examination, and to lift it up to the Lord in prayer so that we can move away from perfectionism (the lie) and lean into what GOD has already laid out for us (the truth), which is the more excellent way.

I found myself nodding my head in agreement to so many highlights. The a-ha moments are too many to list. This is a keeper and well worth hitting the replay several times over.

My prayer is that we who suffer from perfectionism will learn to rest in Jesus.
