“Be Still.”

Psalm 37:7 Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.  Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Be. Still.

Oh how many, many times do we begin our days in such a flurry that we can’t even remember to do the basics: stop and be still to hear what God’s Agenda asks of us that day?

For many women, it’s the rounding up of the corral (as I used to call it) and getting backpacks, lunches, projects and whatever else into the car to hurry off to school.  For all of you moms with more than one child, I get it.  At one point I was doing the three different drop offs in a single morning; it takes multi-tasking to a whole different level, doesn’t it?

Then in a short time (and oh how it seems just moments later) we are back in the car again (don’t forget your purse mom) in the carpool lines to pick those precious ones up to hurry them to after school activities.  With extra snacks and gear in tote (there were times my boys were changing into TaeKwonDo uniforms in the back of the minivan), you get to your destination just long enough to E-X-HAAAAAALE.  Then back home you all go for a marathon of homework, dinner and bath times.  Whew!

I get it. And I’m here to say you’ll live to tell about it.

But let us not forget that in the stillness ~~ in the quiet places of our lives ~~ God desires to keep you close ~~ keep me close ~~ to Him so that you and I don’t get caught up in the “busyness” of life.

I’m older now, and I’m relishing in the “slightly slower” pace of my life (it hasn’t completely stopped moving, mind you).  I’ve learned to be still and hear the whispers of God in my spirit, beckoning me to come rest my soul in His Presence.

Matthew 11:28-30 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

I have discovered that the Lover of my soul calls me out ~~ daily ~~ to come find the rest He desires to give me in the midst of all the activities.  He desires to teach me while He lessens my burden.  Imagine Jesus taking that “backpack” (filled with every worry and concern for today and tomorrow) and lifting it off of your tired shoulders, in exchange for His Agenda.

Sweet.

Take a load off, Girlfriend, and just be still.  You just might hear God whispering to your soul.

I love you to Heaven and Back ~~
