Silence is golden, they say ~~ except when you’re anxiously awaiting the arrival of a solution to something.
Sometimes in the silence you can ‘hear’ the inaudible recitations of the wisdom you know to be true but fight to receive.
Quite often, it is in the stillness of your life ~~ when the very sound of your breathing and your own heart beating ~~ serves as a reminder that God indeed loves you and has blessed you with yet another day.
When in the absence of jubilant praises of gratitude ~~ is God really ever silent? Or are we simply anticipating the grand entrance of answered prayer ~~ as we define answer?
Isaiah 55:8-9 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
I am humbled by this holy reminder of the supremacy of God ~~ but I wrestle still with ~~ well, sitting still.
Psalm 22:1-2 My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief.
I suppose I am in good company, as David penned these very words in his anguish and grief-stricken moments. But look closely with me, Girlfriend …
David adresses God as his God ~~ even in distress, David maintains his relationship with God. And in this intimate relationship with the God of the universe, David pours out the deepest emotions.
But read on …
Psalm 22:3-5 Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. Our ancestors trusted in you, and you rescued them. They cried out to you and were saved. They trusted in you and were never disgraced.
Sweet … God’s Word is sweet to the soul that belongs to Him. David recognizes God for Who He is and what He has done.
I cling to that last sentence in verse 5: They trusted in you and were never disgraced.
As I read and re-read those previous words of comfort and hope I am gently reminded: God answered the cries of His People ~~ in His Time. And we all know that God operates in the eternal ~~ He is not held bound by our experience of the present here and now. He has already walked through our future.
I get your dilemma, Sister ~~ I know all too well the turbulence of life while hoping and waiting for “positive outcomes” and your grip on the edge of that chair now leaves fingerprints of your anxiety. You pace the floor wondering when God will show up. A tiny glimmer of light inside your heart flickers believing that He will “eventually.”
I recently read in Rick Warren’s book: “A Purpose Driven Life — What On Earth Am I Here For?” and I highlighted this statement …
God is never in a hurry, but He is always on time.
This just seemed to dovetail the scriptures I shared with you at the beginning of this post. And I must admit, that while I wait, I remain confident and assured that my God will show up and silence the worry and fear.
Anyone out there willing to toss me an “Amen?”
I love you to Heaven and Back, Girlfriend ~~
