2 Corinthians 1:3-4 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
In less than a few weeks, I had found myself surrounded by three dear Friends starting their fight against the dreaded beast called: breast cancer.
Trembling that I would be the next victim, I went to the Lord in prayer and asked Him why He was showing me this ~~ in my spirit I knew there was something for me to learn in all this. And it was no coincidence that I held my breath as my own yearly mammogram appointment was merely days away.
God whispered into my heart, “Comfort them.”
So my brain goes into first gear … “How do I do this?”
As I twirled my crochet hook for a Project to be donated to a Susan Komen Fundraiser, it suddenly hit me: “blanket them with love.”
And the thoughts and ideas came flooding like a river! I took everything to my notepad and generated an email. I called upon folks and offered them the opportunity to participate as either Artisan (one with skills and talent to either knit or crochet) or Sponsor (financial supporter to the Artisan). Within hours, responses began to pour in. Then I received requests from Artisans with quilting and machine sewing skills and talents. By the end of the week, a tiny group had formed: Threadz of Comfort.
We are a tiny but strong group of women with a mission: bring a little bit of comfort to a woman about to begin her fight in breast cancer through chemotherapy treatments. We consider the opportunity to Partner both as Artisans and Sponsors a blessing ~~ to be able to give some physical and emotional comfort to someone in need.
The Projects (finished blankets) are funded by our own Sponsors. We don’t blow horns or send out solicitations ~~ we don’t walk or run for money. We simply tell people what we are about and God provides for every Project that is generated through us. We budget for approximately $45-$50 per Project; and each Sponsor provides their contributions as they are able. Sometimes we receive more; sometimes we receive less. Each Artisan is given her Funds and goes shopping. We attend all the local sales and share coupons. If anyone has in excess of $10 or more in change, she knows she can contribute it towards a fellow Artisan whose Project might require additional Funding.
This initial Campaign is currently underway. All Artisans are working hard to produce the BEST Projects. We are working from the heart, so you can be assured that the end results are phenomenal. We have purchased the finest materials and no Project is the result of leftover scraps.
Every Artisan is taking great pride in her work ~~ and putting an enormous part of herself into this effort. Some of the Artisans are producing more than one single Project. Some of the Artisans have full time professional jobs outside of the home. Some are retired professionals.
Our First Campaign will conclude a month from now, as we are seeking to deliver to patients by mid-October. These patients will be undergoing their treatments throughout the holidays and in the middle of winter.
Plans for future Campaigns are targeted for April and October of every year. The Announcement Call will go out two months prior respectively.
I am ecstatic to say that I had to “turn money down.” When the Contributions continued to come in after all of our Artisans were booked, I had to tell potential Sponsors to hold on until next April.
By the time we deliver our first Campaign Projects, Threadz of Comfort will have produced nearly 12 Projects.
All this to say: it’s so important to be still and hear the Voice of God whispering ~~ it just might turn into something really awesome.
If you’re interested in Partnering with me (Leading Partner) and Threadz of Comfort, either as an Artisan or Sponsor, kindly respond here. I am willing to receive yarn in bulk for future Projects. If you know of organizations desiring to donate crochet hooks or knitting needles or bulk fabric tell me that also. We are not a nonprofit group. We are women simply addressing an immediate need in the community. We do not accept payment for our labor of love. In fact, almost all of our Sponsors have requested “anonymity.”
I’d love to hear from you, Girlfriend ~~
